GROUNDCOVERS

Here are some of my favorite groundcovers. Purchase them as plants not seeds:


FOR FULL TO PARTIAL SUN

Arnold dwarf creeping forsythia - Any soil; excellent bank cover; spring flower; sometimes good fall color. Plant 3 or more feet apart.

Flowering groundcover roses - Most soils; low growing, long blooming rose; available in white, red, and pink; may wish to cut back at end of season. Plant 3 feet apart.

Plumbago - Moist well-drained soil; protected or eastern sun is best; deep blue flower all summer; red fall color; cut back spring. Plant 8 inches apart.

St. Johnswort - Any soil; blue-green foliage; invasive rhizome habit; may wish to contain; yellow flowers in summer; deciduous sub-shrub. Plant 2 feet apart.

FOR PARTIAL TO HEAVY SHADE

Sweet Box - Moist well-drained humus; handsome dark green foliage; fragrant flowers; evergreen low shrub; slow to establish. Plant 2 feet apart.
