A Washington Post columnist and certified professional landscape designer, Lerner has written a comprehensive guide to home landscaping that will appeal to homeowners of all skill levels. Starting with basic design principles and planning methods, he shows gardeners the tools, plants, and structures needed to realize their own landscape potential. Tons of specifics are covered, including areas for pets, plantings for shady areas, wildlife in the garden, storage options, and security. Specific plans for structures are not included -- and even without them this comprehensive title weighs in at 458 pages. A number of appendixes offer information about plant varieties and their cultural requirements.

An excellent guide to a popular subject, this title is recommended for all public libraries.
